Bupa’s New Dental Allowance: What Isle of Man Patients Need to Know

If you have Bupa health insurance, you may have recently received information about a new Dental Allowance added to your policy.

When we first looked into this, there was an obvious question for people living on the Isle of Man:

How can you use the benefit if there isn’t a Bupa Dental Care practice on the Island?

We now have some good news.

Our team has spoken directly with Bupa and has been advised that, because there is no Bupa Dental Care practice on the Isle of Man, Bupa members may be able to attend a local dentist, pay for their appointment and then claim the eligible cost back from Bupa using an itemised receipt.

That means you may be able to use your new Bupa Dental Allowance while attending Quay Dental.

What is Bupa’s new Dental Allowance?

From 1 August 2026, Bupa introduced a new Dental Allowance to some health insurance policies.

The policy information we have seen provides eligible members with access to:

• One dental appointment each year

• One dental hygiene appointment each year

  
  

Under Bupa's standard arrangements, these appointments are normally provided through a Bupa Dental Care practice.

However, there isn't currently a Bupa Dental Care practice on the Isle of Man.

So what happens if you live on the Isle of Man?

We contacted Bupa to clarify this.

Bupa advised our team that, because members on the Isle of Man do not have access to a local Bupa Dental Care practice, an alternative arrangement is available.

You may be able to:

1. Attend a local dental practice such as Quay Dental.

2. Pay for your appointment as normal.

3. Ask us for an itemised receipt.

4. Submit the receipt to Bupa to claim back the amount covered by your Dental Allowance.

   
   

We are very happy to provide the appropriate itemised receipt following your appointment.

Can I use my Bupa Dental Allowance at Quay Dental?

Based on the advice we have received from Bupa, potentially, yes.

Quay Dental is an independent private dental practice and a Bupa-approved dental provider. We are not part of the Bupa Dental Care practice network.

However, because there isn't a Bupa Dental Care practice on the Isle of Man, Bupa has advised us that members may be able to use a local dentist and reclaim the eligible cost.

As individual Bupa policies can differ, we would still recommend confirming your own entitlement with Bupa before your appointment.

You can simply ask:

“I live on the Isle of Man and there is no Bupa Dental Care practice locally. Can I use my Dental Allowance at Quay Dental and submit an itemised receipt for reimbursement?”

That way, you know exactly what your policy covers before you attend.

What will Quay Dental provide?

If you are using your Bupa Dental Allowance with us, simply let our reception team know.

Following payment, we can provide an itemised receipt showing the relevant details of your appointment so that you can submit your claim to Bupa.

Bupa remains responsible for deciding whether your particular policy covers the appointment and how much you are entitled to reclaim.

If you're already a patient with us and have recently received details of the new Bupa Dental Allowance, it's worth checking your policy.

You may now have an additional benefit available to help towards the cost of your routine dental and hygiene care.

Looking for a Bupa dentist on the Isle of Man?

You may have found Quay Dental while searching for a Bupa dentist locally.

Quay Dental is a Bupa-approved dental provider, although we remain an independent private dental practice rather than a Bupa Dental Care practice.

The important news for Isle of Man residents is that the absence of a Bupa Dental Care practice on the Island may not prevent you from using your new Dental Allowance.

Bupa has advised us that an alternative reimbursement route is available for Isle of Man members.
